Our General Orders are progressive and constantly evolving to further the Department’s overall performance and efficiency. The Abington Township Police Department is an accredited agency with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) which is based on a set of industry best practices developed by law enforcement executives supporting the community first philosophy.

It is the goal of the Abington Township Police Department to provide clear direction to our law enforcement professionals with a robust set of General Orders acknowledging that police officers routinely deal with very complex situations, not all of which can be clearly defined by any set of policies and procedures. The Department’s General Orders serve as a framework to provide officers with guidance and are based on sound judgement and discretion.

Our full list of General Orders contains sensitive information that if posted could place the officers and the general public at risk. As a result, those affected policies will not be published. The policies listed below are the ones most often requested and provide some transparency to meet community expectations.
