Arrest for Robbery and Residential Burglary

At approximately 10:11 AM on Monday, November 28, 2011 a resident of the 1100 block of Colonial Avenue in Roslyn was taking a shower in his 2nd floor bathroom. The resident stepped out of the shower and saw a male wearing a gray sweat shirt and blue knit cap running out of his bedroom. The resident chased the man and struggled briefly with him before the intruder was able to flee fromthe home. Abington Police responded and a Police K-9 tracked the suspect along the creek bed in the area of Johnston and Radcliffe Avenue. The K-9 located the suspect’s sweatshirt and pants in the creek bed along with a bag and other items he dropped while fleeing but the suspect eluded capture. Because of its close proximity to this scene, Roslyn Elementary School was contacted and placed into lockdown. Through investigation the suspect was identified as Nikolas Ryan HAMMERBACHER, age 19 who currently has no permanent address. Abington Police arrested HAMMERBACHER the same day at a residence where he had been staying on Arbuta Road in Abington without incident. He admitted his involvement in the robbery/burglary on Colonial Avenue and is being charged with robbery, burglary and related charges. HAMMERBACHER is currently detained in the Abington Police Detention Facility awaiting arraignment.
