Community Alert: Burglary
12/28/23
Burglary
On 12/28/23, at approximately 3:00 A.M., Abington Officers responded to Kingsley Road, in the Rydal section of Abington Township, for a residential security alarm. When police arrived, they found that a suspect(s) entered the home by prying open a second story sliding window. At this time, it is believed that jewelry was taken. The residents were not home, and the house appeared empty from the road.
Due to the unusual time and location of this burglary, police reviewed recent crime reports in the area. An attempted burglary took place in the same neighborhood in August of this year. The resident explained that at approximately 5:00 A.M., she heard noise near a downstairs window. Police responded and observed the rear slider pried off of its track and the screen tossed aside. There were no cars in the driveway, and no lights on inside. It appeared as though no one was home, and it is believed that the resident scared the suspect off.
Although there is no direct evidence linking these two incidents, the similarities warrant consideration. As a result, we encourage all residents in the area to be alert for suspicious activity. When possible, set alarms, leave a light on, consider exterior motion lights, and contact police promptly if you see anything unusual. Abington Police will be directing additional police resources to this neighborhood during the overnight hours.
Lastly, we ask that all residents in the area with video cameras review any footage captured last night. If anything unusual is observed please let us know. All information can be forwarded to Detective Andrew Ammaturo, Aammaturo1@abingtonpa.gov, 267-536-1277.
