Crime Alert: Thefts from Vehicles and Thefts of Vehicles

Abington Police are also noticing an increase in theft from vehicles. Actors in these thefts, appear to be checking neighborhoods for unlocked vehicles and removing credit cards, purses, tools or electronics left inside. In several cases, the vehicle’s key fob was left inside, which allowed the actors to steal the vehicle itself. These thefts appear to occur predominately during the early morning hours.

Residents are encouraged to remove valuables from their vehicles when parked and ensure their vehicles are locked at all times. Owners of high-performance Dodge vehicles are encouraged to park their vehicle in a garage, if possible, box the vehicle in with another vehicle, use a steering wheel immobilization device and/or other vehicle immobilization technology. Abington Police have increased patrols and are working with other departments to identify and arrest the actors involved.
