Home Invasion Robbery

On Monday, September 23, 2024 at 1AM, Abington Police were dispatched to 1800 block of Horace Ave for a report of a male shot after a home invasion.  Responding officers met with a female victim/resident, who explained that an unknown male had entered her home and attempted to steal her purse.  The victim explained that she had recently returned from a local casino.  Shortly after entering her residence, the suspect, later identified as Khabir Shepard, pointed a gun at the victim and forced his way into her home.  Shepard pushed the victim to the ground and grabbed her purse from the dining room table.  The victim screamed for help from her adult son, who was asleep in a rear bedroom.  The victim’s son retrieved his legally owned firearm and ran to his mother’s aid.  The victim’s son observed Shepard’s firearm and fearing for his mother’s life, fired two shots at Shepard.

Shepard was struck in the back and arm by these shots and ran from the home, where he collapsed on the front lawn.  Abington Police arrived and took Shepard into custody.  A handgun was recovered from the front of the home and is believed to be the firearm Shepard pointed inside the home.  Further investigation revealed that the victim was followed home by Shepard after she exited a local casino.

Subsequent to his arrest, Shepard was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.  Shepard was charged with numerous offenses, to include Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary and Carrying a Firearm Without a License.  Shepard was arraigned and is being held in Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $250,000 cash bail.

CRIMINAL CHARGES, AND ANY DISCUSSION THEREOF, ARE MERELY ALLEGATIONS AND ALL DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL AND UNLESS PROVEN GUILTY.

Approved for release by Lt. Steve Fink
