Residential Burglary Arrest

Case 13-051852
Friday, December 13, 2013

At 3:53 AM on December 13, 2013, a resident of the 1800 block of Allen Lane in Abington was awoken by noises coming from downstairs in her home.  She went to investigate and found the contents of her purse strewn on the dining room table and realized that a burglar had been in her home.  She immediately called 9-1-1.  Officers investigated and determined that entry had been made by opening an unlocked window in the kitchen.  Inside there was very light ransacking on the first floor and the only items missing are approximately $98.00 from the victim’s purse and a new Sony Camera. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

At 4:13 AM an Upper Moreland Officer observed a gold Mitsubishi at Old York Road and Moreland Road.  This car was wanted because it had been stolen in a burglary in Philadelphia.  Two Upper Moreland Officers followed and attempted to stop the stolen car as it traveled south on Old York Road but after the vehicle drove recklessly and through red traffic signals, they abandoned their pursuit.  A Jenkintown Officer found the Mitsubishi crashed into a fire hydrant on Greenwood Avenue between Old York Road and Leedom Streets in Jenkintown.  The operator had fled on foot.  An Abington Police K-9 tracked the suspect and a Cheltenham Officer apprehended him at Breyer Drive and Old York Road.

Arrested was 30 year old George Wayne PARKS of 6319 Magnolia Street, Philadelphia.  The shoes PARKS was wearing when arrested matched footprint impressions in the snow at the burglary on Allen Lane.  PARKS admitted the burglary on Allen Lane and a second burglary also in the 1800 block of Allen Lane that had been done prior to the previously mentioned burglary.  In this case PARKS broke into a vacant house under renovation and stole a large amount of tools and other items.  PARKS also attempted to enter a home in the 2000 block of Corinthian Avenue but was unsuccessful when confronted by three large dogs.  PARKS is being charged with multiple counts of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property and other related charges.  He is currently awaiting arraignment and additional investigation will be done regarding other possible crimes PARKS may be involved in.
