Septa Community Update: Bridge over Easton Road
Single-Lane Restriction With Flagging for Platform Construction On SEPTA Bridge Over Easton Road
LOCATION: Sections of Glenside’s inbound and outbound platforms over Easton Road
COUNTY: Montgomery County (Abington & Cheltenham Twps.)
CONSTRUCTION DATES: Monday, April 7, 2025, through Friday, April 18, 2025 9 am to 3 pm (no weekend work) – weather permitting
SCOPE: SEPTA’s third-party contractor will be working on both the inbound and outbound platforms at Glenside Regional Rail Station. Crews will be demolishing the portion of platforms in place between the top of the stairwells and the end of the bridge deck over Easton Road (see orange area in map below). Due to concerns that the work on the topside of the bridge deck could generate construction debris below the bridge, flagging a single lane of traffic is required as a safety precaution. A mini excavator will be utilized to remove the asphalt and concrete with minimal hammering expected. Once that is complete the contractor will utilize the mini excavator and a skid steer to remove the stone base to expose the existing concrete deck, which will undergo repairs. New platforms for these impacted areas will be put in place during the first two weeks of May.
EASTON ROAD IMPACTS DURING CONSTRUCTION: Single Lane with Flagging: Monday, April 7, 2025, through Friday, April 18, 2025, between 9 am and 3 pm, with no weekend work. To facilitate the platform construction, a single-lane restriction will be in place underneath the bridge on Easton Road between Glenside Avenue and Mt. Carmel Avenue. Flaggers will be in place at both intersections — Easton Road and Mt. Carmel Avenue and Easton Road and Glenside Avenue.
- At least 1 sidewalk will always be available.
- At no time will access to local businesses be impacted.
TRAIN SERVICE NOTE: All Regional Rail service will operate as normal weekdays during this scheduled work.
SEPTA EASTON ROAD BRIDGE REHABILITATION PROJECT: This work is part of SEPTA’s rehabilitation of SEPTA’s bridge over Easton Road and part of The Authority’s continuing efforts to bring its bridge structures into a state of good repair. Rehabilitation efforts include structural repairs, including concrete repairs to the abutment walls, center pier support and bridge superstructure as well as waterproofing of bridge superstructure. In addition, crews will perform partial platform replacement and repairs at Glenside RR Station.
SEPTA greatly appreciates your patience and understanding while this important construction project is completed.
