Theft Abington Post Office

April 24, 2013
Case 13-014809

On April 12, 2013 an Agent with the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General notified Abington Police that they had a Postal employee who they had been conducting an investigation on who they believed was stealing money from the mail. Abington Police assisted them in completing the investigation and on April 23, 2013 the employee, 25 year old Jamie Pamela FLETCHER of Chew Avenue in Philadelphia was arrested by Abington Police and charged with theft, receiving stolen property, and related charges. FLETCHER surrendered voluntarily, was arraigned and released on $10,000 unsecured bail for a preliminary hearing which will be held on May 15, 2013 at 10:30 AM in District Court 38-1-04.

FLETCHER has worked for the Postal Service since November 2012, and was assigned to the Abington Post Office in January, 2013. Between January and April 2013, FLETCHER looked for greeting cards being sent through the US Postal Mail in the Abington Post Office while she was working. FLETCHER opened some of the envelopes and removed gift cards from them and in some cases removed cash that was being sent in the greeting cards. The envelopes were then re-sealed and left in the mail stream to be delivered. By her own estimation FLETCHER stole approximately $500 in cash and ten gift cards in this manner.

Anyone who suspects that they were a victim of this crime and who mailed cash or gift cards from the Abington Post Office that were missing when the card arrived should contact Abington Police and file a report.
